Thanks again. We enjoyed having you to our school. The kids really enjoyed your presentation. Today I had a student just about jump out of her skin telling me about reading The Kit Kat Caper at home.
She was connecting it to something we were reading together…Susan Carter

Dear Mrs Ross,
Today you came to my school – Trillium Woods Elementary School in Barrie… You read us a Halloween story. You were the Halloween Girl. You made me laugh. I bought a book that you wrote, “Say Please to the Honeybees”. Tonight my Mom and I read the book and made a bee craft. It was so much fun. Thank you for coming to my school. Please come back!
Love Bethany P.Dear Susan,
Thanks for taking the time to send us back an email and we would be thrilled if you used Bethany’s letter to you on your website. She is still talking about your visit and I have heard other parents say that their children enjoyed having you come to the school as well. Bethany has two older brothers (ages 9 and 10) and they also enjoyed reading the story. Getting children to read can be a struggle for some. The creativity, humour and energy in your book enticed my children to continue each page. The bee craft that Bethany and I did further added to the excitement of the reading experience. The fact that you-an author came to our school and also answered Bethany’s email was appreciated by all members of our family! Kudos as well to your illustrator, Megan. She truly did a great job! Keep up the great work, Susan and have a wonderful Thanksgiving from our family to yours!Tammy and Bethany Pollard

Students Captivated by The Kit Kat Caper
The primary classes were lucky to have author, Susan Ross, visit them on October 20th (2009). She delighted the students as she read from her new book, The Kit Kat Caper. The children learned about all the work that goes into writing a published book. They even got to see original paintings that became the illustrations in her book. What a fun learning experience! One child’s comment to Susan sums up how the child felt, “You”re the best author and I have your book at home!”

On October 2 (2008), the primary division had the pleasure of experiencing a wonderful workshop and storytelling time with local author Susan Ross. Mrs. Ross, a former primary teacher and a Stoneybrook resident whom the children recognize when she walks her dog Abby, provided the workshop to our students … The workshop allowed the students to walk through the process with Mrs. Ross of how a creative idea can be developed into a story, tested on the target audience, and then completed for publishing purposes. She shared with us how she discovered her illustrator who is a London student, and how the two collaborated to complete the publishing process. She also entertained us with her wonderful storytelling abilities by presenting her published work as well as allowing us to be her audience for her upcoming Halloween book. The students were greatly enlightened in the writing process and thoroughly entertained. A great time was had by everyone!

…thanks so much for coming to visit our two schools. The children and staff really enjoyed it. I have been making reference to some of the things you told the children about being a good author eg. lots of reading, re-writing and perseverance. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to share in your writing journey.
Have a great day.

You will be pleased to know one of my reluctant writers made a book after you left. I gave her an “I am an author” sticker. When she was picked up I heard her say to her sister “I am an author” !!!!!! So exciting!!!!!!

The students, staff & teachers of the primary division were delighted to welcome the author of The Great BellyButton Coverup to our school on Friday, May 15th!!! Susan Ross did a fantastic job of entertaining her audience with her newly released story! Susan also gave us insight into some of the stories that she is in the process of writing as well as highlighting her (sheep) craft and her Butterfly kit!!! Susan has an incredible way of telling stories and held the students’ attention for the duration of her presentation.

Thanks again for coming in to speak to the kids yesterday. I know they enjoyed the book. My own son enjoyed it so much that he retold the entire story to our evening custodian, and then had me read it to him after school and my husband read it to him again last night. Violet is sitting on his headboard watching over his room right now.
